Time to catch up

by redwine on Jul.07, 2009, under Uncategorized

Over the next couple of days I’ll catch everyone up on what’s been happening with the Redwine family and Finewine Photography.  One of the highlights was the wedding of Celes and Brandon on the 27th of June.  There are times in your life when you come across the path of special people who really leave a wonderful imprint on your life…Celes and Brandon are those kind of folks.  I’ll write more about their day and include some awesome pictures.

I am flying to Washington DC as I write this (about 37,000 feet in the air).  Aint technology great?  I’m actually on-line using the airplane’s new WiFi system.  What a great way to spend the flight…sleeping in these seats just doesn’t work so cruising the internet is the next best thing!  I thought that having WiFi on the bus between San Jose and Santa Cruz was amazing…this beats all :-)

Oh yeah, back on the subject of Washington DC.  We are going to photograph a couple after they are wed in the Washington DC Mormon Temple.  I’m looking forward to posting some pictures of this Temple…it is beautiful.  While we’re in DC, we plan on spending some time at Arlington Cemetary, mainly to veiw the changing of the guard, and hope to spend some time at the Holocaust Museum.  Pictures will be forthcoming.

More to come…

Jim

Life goes on with joy and sadness

by redwine on Jul.07, 2009, under Uncategorized

Hi Everyone - It’s been a while since I posted…you probably recall that one of my earlier posts was talking about my sister’s fight with cancer.  She has since left this world and is no longer in pain.  It is so hard to see her go, she was such a special sister and best friend, but at the same time, it was good to see her relieved of the terrible pain that she was constantly dealing with.  She died last week in her husband’s arms, surrounded by her best friends in her home in Santa Cruz.

A moment of silence for Nancy Redwine, 1959 - 2009.  She has a heart of gold and a gentle spirit and I’m looking forward to seeing her again someday.

Peace - Jim

In praise of Hospice organizations

by redwine on Jun.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

Hi Everybody - There are times in my life when I want to stand up and shout to let the whole world know about something or somebody who is outstanding.  I’ve had the humbling experience of working with the local Hospice organization during my brother’s last few months, and now with the Santa Cruz County Hospice organization working with my sister’s situation.  I say “humbling” because of the huge amount of compassion and sacrifice that this organization and its nurses exhibit daily.  I can’t imagine what it must be like to constantly work with terminal patients, 24/7, often becoming friends (how can you not when you’re compassionate), only to watch their condition worsen and then depart.  You are all angels and my heart goes out to you for your work.

If you’re feeling benevolent, look up your local hospice and make a donation.  Someday you might encounter their work and be very greatful that you helped keep the organization functioning.

Blessings - Jim

My Sister’s battle with cancer

by redwine on Jun.18, 2009, under Uncategorized

Many of you who know me, know that during my brother’s fight with Pancreatic Cancer 4 years ago, my sister began to experience symptoms of breast cancer.  She was so focused on caring for my brother in his last two months on earth that she put off getting checked out.  A couple of months after my brother passed, she finally got around to seeing a doctor about her symptoms…by then the cancer had spread from her breasts to her lungs and her ribs.  She was not given long to live, but has managed to fight a good fight and has survived for 4 years so far.  Unfortunately it has come to the point where the cancer has ravaged other areas of her body and she now lives in constant pain and nausea.  I got a call this morning from Nancy’s husband telling me that I needed to visit as soon as possible.  I am headed there as I write this.

PS - This is being posted late because I am having a hard time linking to a network.  I am in Santa Cruz at my sister’s home where she is sleeping, taking pain killers, sleeping…you know the rest.

I’ll write more when I get back to the Tri Cities.

Peace - Jim

Sharise and Jim wed in our backyard

by redwine on Jun.18, 2009, under Uncategorized

Sharise and Jim

Our daughter, Sharise, married her dream-guy in our backyard on Saturday.  It was a beautiful ceremony.  The barbershop quartet that I’m a member of (The Three Good Looking Guys) sang “Little Girl” during the ceremony.  It was a tear jerker for sure!

Her father, Mike, and I (step-dad) walked her down the aisle.  We realized at that point that we should have made the aisle a little bigger when we set up the chairs.  We got to the front and proceeded to kiss her cheeks…and then we were “coached” in the necessity to lift her veil first…so we tried again.   Jeeez, you’d think that after attending literally hundreds of weddings as a photographer, I’d have figured this out by now.

Another funny observation…photographer’s families are the worst photographic subjects.  I am always very clear with a prospective bride that everyone needs to be on time in order to get all the pictures taken in a minimal amount of time.  Yep, you guessed it.  I think we were close to an hour late…and we didn’t get all the pictures we wanted because of it.  But, we still had a blast and got some great shots.

It’s good to be home

by redwine on Jun.16, 2009, under Uncategorized

Hi Everyone!

I finally arrived home from my trip to Jacksonville.  Because of the bad storms all across the USA, I ended up getting into Pasco a day after I was originally scheduled.  I ended up spending Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.  I stayed at the Downtown Radisson.  I got up at 5:30 am in order to catch the 6am shuttle back to the airport.  I walked out of the hotel and got to see how the skyline of SLC is changing around Temple Square.  Lots of construction everywhere as the city moves into the future.

Have a great day!

Trip to Jacksonville, FL

by redwine on Jun.10, 2009, under Uncategorized

Hi Everyone - I’ve been in Jacksonville Florida for the last 9 days working on a project for Energy Northwest.  I just happened to be there during a very rainy spell.  It poured most of the time I was there (a good thing for Florida….they were in drought conditions).  I left there this morning, and wouldn’t you know it, it was beautiful and sunny.  I s pentan hour next to the pool (trying to get tan before spending a week at Twin Lakes).  I captured this picture at pool side…a beautiful Hibiscus flower with Palm trees in the background

Shortly after that I left for the airport and was treated to this cool visual affect at the end of the concourse.

 giants in the land

I am writing this while sitting in Atlanta’s airport.  Bad weather along the eastern coast has caused severe delays in all flights.  It looks like I may be spending the night here or in Salt Lake.  My flight to Salt Lake keeps getting delayed.  It was originally scheduled to depart at 6:30…now it is schedule for a 10pm departure….ugh.  But, as most of you know, I believe that things like this happen for a reason…so I’ll be thankful and try to find someway I can be helpful to someone around me.

Ciao Everyone :-)  -  Jim

Jennifer and Sam’s wedding at Terra Blanca Winery

by redwine on Jun.10, 2009, under Uncategorized

We spent a fantastic day with Jennifer and Sam on the 30th of May at the Terra Blanca Winery.  Jennifer and Sam are two of the nicest people I’ve worked with (OK, I think I say that about almost everyone)…but really, these two are very loving and caring.  What was really cool was that their friends and family were the same way.  It sure made our job easy :-)

I was very impressed with the beautiful venue that they chose for their wedding.  Terra Blanca Winery has invested a lot in their facility making it a premiere wedding site.

Best wishes to Jennifer and Sam :-)
